Butera had an immediate impact for Boston College, becoming the Eagles starting second baseman, playing in 53 games and starting all but one of them as a freshman. Butera batted .267 (52-for-198) with 32 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 29 RBI and three stolen bases. CollegeBaseball360.com named Butera a Primetime Performer the week of March 19-25 after he hit a game-winning, walk-off single versus Georgia Tech on March 24.
Butera was invited to play in the Louisiana All-Star Game after garnering All-State and First Team All-Metro and District honors by hitting .435 with eight home runs and 48 RBI as a senior in high school.
Butera’s brother, Barry, played at Boston College from 2007-09 and was drafted in the 21st Round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros. His father, also named Barry, played two seasons with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox from 1979-80.
